Could be useful for some shenanigans involving lots of copying effects, but honestly, there are better ways to play with that sort of thing.
I dig the flavor text, though. And the "play this as a mana source" deal. Ah, nostalgia!

In casual this thing is a lot more powerful than people give it credit for. Toss some mana at it here and there, nobody much cares that you're creating 0/1 creatures. Who's going to waste resources killing them? Nobody. Who's going to wish they had when you sac them to call down a massive, board clearing Comet Storm or similar? Everyone, but then it's too late.
Of course there's the obvious Lord of the Pit and similar upkeep handling and popping out a blocker at instant speed. One facet that is often missed is that the sacrifice for mana does not tap anything, so if you have a couple tokens in play even with all your permanents tapped your opponents have to assume that you can still cast.

Like graey24601 said no one notices 0/1 tokens in casual... Until you use biomass mutation on them and they become 8/8's. Ah what fun.

Conspiracy set to Prism, except it's not a legal choice since the Gatherer doesn't include it as a creature type. I could be wrong though... let's ask FAQ!
