By the purest concept of "card advantage". Tamerlein is correct. You are trading two cards for two cards. You have gained 0 net cards, thus no card advantage. What you DO with those cards, is where we can CREATE advantage. Madness, flashback, reanimation targets, all turn the discard into an advantage. Also, card SELECTION is an advantage in and of itself. You discard something you dont need, and hopefully get 2 cards you do.

I would hope this is how Tamerlein was using the idea of "card advantage". Kestrelio, you are correct in that you can turn the discard into a good play, but you still trade 2 cards for 2 cards, and thus there is no "card advantage" in the truest sense of the term.

I've been running Wild Guess in a burn deck alongside Guttersnipe, Young Pyromancer, and a Squee, Goblin Nabob or two (Doesn't help you much for standard, but its great in Modern); if you don't have flashback, madness or other ways to dredge up your graveyard Squee is a great choice to circumvent the "net-loss" of cards caused by Wild Guess.

Timing issue question: if I discard a second Wild Guess to pay the additional cost, would Pyromancer Ascension get a counter?
