This is an undervalued equipment. Effectively triggering a Catalog each time a creature connects with your opponent is a good thing, improving card selection and card advantage. The casting cost and equip cost are cheap, so you can't expect an additional evasion ability or power/toughness boost. Play evasive creatures accordingly.

This was an "MVP" card when I played 5-color aggro.

I want this card. Not for just the card draw, but also for the card discard. This is a valuable addition to Reanimation style decks. Nether Traitor loves it... whether he is alive or dead.

People may have just ignored this because of Skullclamp. Oh well.

Cheap, repeatable card draw in a color other than blue? Looks good to me, 4/5

Silhana Ledgewalker and Invisible Stalker become card drawing/filtering engines. This equipment is not to be underestimated, with both low casting cost and equip cost. It was just born during the same set that brought us Skullclamp, the most broken of cards.

Have a deck with Spark Elemental, Hellspark Elemental, etc.. , this is perfect for trample and fast cards. It gets you filled up quickly and easily for a small tax.
Add pump effects (especially teetering peak, assault strobe or double cleave, and reckless charge), burn and/or goblin war drums and you have a fun deck for 1v1 or multiplayer.
It only costs you 1 turn of efficiency, it solidifies your mana curve in the long run, and you can feed your grave flashback or unearth cards further rounding out your base. It also can discard more copies of itself if you don't want them.

I really like the options this gives to non-blue EDH decks. With your commander, you always have a guy available to equip so suddenly you've got this beautiful card draw/filter engine that reliably nets you advantage regardless of race/gender/creed/what color mage you are. I'll probably work it into my Borborygmos deck. I am a bit concerned how he'll wear it though, with the one-eye thing and all...

I totally forgot about this card. How ironic.
