I don't know what it is, but my brain insists on telling me that this is one of the top 10 coolest cards in existence.

Works nicely with Blade of the Bloodchief because it says sacrifice the token at the end of combat as opposed to exile the token at the end of combat so either way one creature is gonna die during your combat.

This card, like many other near-forgotten mirrodin artifacts, was cursed with being released in the same set when the infamous affinity mechanic was introduced.

What happens to the token if Gemini Engine leaves the battlefield, say, by being bounced back to your hand before the token is generated?

Perhaps this is a somewhat noobish comment but if I were to attack with Gemini Engine equipped with a Trepanation Blade, since they both are 'whenever ______ attacks' which happens first? Does the twin gain the boost or does that have to happen afterwards?

I don't think Blade of the Bloodchief works here, because tokens don't go to the graveyard.
EDIT: actually, they do.

Pity it's not a golem, this would have made a great synergy with Precursor Golem.
Then again, there is a shitload of synergies with Precursor Golem out there.
And i'm already pretty glad about Gemini Engine's nicely fixed creature type mess.

Quick question - Anyone know why this didn't have its creature type printed on the card?

@K1nG_0f_Sh0v3l5: When this was printed, artifact creatures didn't have creature types.
