Don't worry, if you want to keep the scythe on it's current target, just equip unscythe killer of kings, too.

@Tercuis: Because the attacking player controls the Scythe of the Wretched, he gets Keiga even if the defender who blocked with Keiga gains control of the attacking creature. The Scythe of the Wretched implies it's referring to the player who controls the Scythe, not the player who controls the creature it's equipped to.

Love equipping this to a double striker; even if you only get chump blocked, you still gain creature advantage. Oh, and Puresteel Paladin makes this that much easier to move around.

@Tercuis

Here is EXACTLY what would happen:

So after combat finishes, both of your cards are marked with lethal damage, and state based actions will send them to your graveyards at the same time. Then, because you are the active player, your triggered ability will go on the stack first, followed by your opponent's triggered ability when he gets priority.

(603.3. Once an ability has triggered, its controller puts it on the stack as an object that's not a card the next time a player would receive priority. See rule 116, "Timing and Priority." The ability becomes the topmost object on the stack. It has the text of the ability that created it, and no other characteristics. It remains on the stack until it's countered, it resolves, a rule causes it to be removed from the stack, or an effect moves it elsewhere.)

Once you both pass priority, the stack resolves the most recent effects first - which would be Keiga's. Your opponent would indeed gain control... (see all)

Obviously, the opponent is going to be too smart to block or attack with anything that could be touched by a creature equipped with this. You're going to have to force them to see things your way. Fortunately, there are a number of cards that can do exactly that.

From off the top of my head -

Feral Contest
Prey Upon
Pit Fight
Arena
Domri Rade

I'm sure there are more. I also think one important thing to remember is that your creature has to survive the combat in order for the scythe's ability to trigger. The wording on this card reads "by equipped creature" not by the equipment, so your creature still needs to be standing in order for it to work. You can't just send a 1/1 Sapproling equipped with this card against the Sliver Queen, then Doomblade and return her to the field under your control. As long as you pick and choose your opponents...
