This card has a good deal of utility.
Implode your opponent's creatures, or buff the ones of your own that don't need the toughness for some reason or another.

Not strictly worse than firebreathing. More versatile, but often not as effective for firebreathing's purpose.

Seeing as mono-Red lacks targeted removal that can get through indestructible creatures, I'd say this card is easily sideboardable in case you run into Avacyn, Tajic, etc. Plus, it's versatile enough for other things, going off what's been said on here already.
