Rated 5 not only for nostalgia, but this is one of the best creatures in my Suicide Black deck... that is until I have to side them out for Masticore lol.

As Etregan put it, 1st turn swamp + dark ritual + phyrexian negator = good game. At least it used to be that way.

The Negator would have been stupidly powerful if not for the enormous downside. Sure, you can cast it on your first turn, but as Etregan points out, a simple Shock (which would now be a Lightning Bolt) would make many players scoop up their cards unless they have a really sicko deck (hmm, how about a casual deck with 4 Unearths, 4 Dark Rituals, 4 Negators and 4

I do think this is good against non burn cards. Also in the reprint set it comes in you get "Living Death". So I think after this card becomes useless or if this card has caused you to put a lot of good creatures in the graveyard you can cast living death and put all creatures put in the graveyard by it back in play and get rid of this card too. Great card as you play all your dead creatures at once which Phyrexian Negator has put in the graveyard for you without paying their mana cost.

Such a sweet card, black suicide/beatdown is awesome. I wish I had the skillz to use the card to it's greatest potential. On second thought, how much skill does it take to get this out first turn with dark ritual?

I think this is one the best creature cards ever printed: tier 1 among black creatures. It's a 3 costing 5/5 with Trample. You don't play this card in casual games where everyone's got a phew bolts up their sleeve, but on tournaments where you expect heavy control reigning. Of course the obvious downside to this card is that you have to keep 4 creatures in your sideboard. Or at least you have to think of a sideboard card that fills the demanding slot.

Treacherous Link was printed in the same block. Inviolability is also a good workaround for a black/white deck.

This art is great. It harkens back to 90's sci fi and I love it. As for it's pragmatic function, this card was not made simply to kick ass on its own. It was built as something to build around in order to best facilitate its strengths, and avoid its weaknessess. Just don't use 'em against red.

seriously overrated. Dark Ritual into this, one Lightning Bolt and you're finished.
