Still a very good creature, but probably not so much as Sphinx of Jwar Isle--for 1 more you get 5/5 with flying and shroud, which is basically what morphling would be, but without the constant mana payment.

I'm soooo going to get flamed and voted down for this, but...
The game has passed this guy by. Over the years MtG has become more about creature power and less about everything else. For the same CMC, I'd rather play Djinn of Wishes, Belltower Sphinx, or Serra Sphinx.
This guy dies to bolt and most removal if you didn't leave a mana open to save him. So against

, and 
you're probably waiting till turn 6 to play him if your opponent has cards in hand. You could argue then, that this guys' spot is in your deck's 
CMC slot. Then he has to be compared to cards like Guile, Sphinx of Jwar Isle, and Sphinx Magosi. He doesn't nearly come out ahead in those comparisons.
He's among many classic creatures from the past like Juzám Djinn, Nightmare, and Serra Angel. All cards ... (see all)

@Shannnnoonn: I'm pretty sure that would not work, as the negative power would still be there meaning that when you pump back from "0/12" you are really pumping from -6/12 and would get a 0/6 Morphling with which to block the Sphinx. (See Char-Rumbler and Spinal Parasite.)

Whoever hasn't been rating this 5 is doing a disservice to superman. Obviously those people never faced this creature in a match, or they would know better.
