I can't say at 100% that it's bad, but it is surely not good...
In a two-player game it is pretty useless. Surely it is far better in multiplayer.

This is a killer commander in Commander... On a turn three drop you're likely to get a big beater.

Remember that without buffs he's just a vanilla beater. I mean, he can be a big one, but unless you're attached to mono red woolly thoctar or leatherback baloth will often be better.

I am building an EDH deck using this guy as the general. The game plan is to stick some howling mine effect and get this guy into play, and then blow up all the lands and just cause chaos in general as this guy does some work on peoples' life totals.
The deck is going to feature a lot of 'free' spells and stuff like seething song to speed out powerful effects like wildfire and to run on few lands better than everyone else. It will also allow me to abuse the free cards going around from all the howling mine effects.

Dies to Doom Blade? Pshaw, whatever. This guy dies to One with Nothing.
That is an accomplishment in the field of suck.

Pretty good in a Nekusar EDH deck. Other than that, and a few other commanders, he's nit good at all.
