Protect it with Aegis Angel, then protect the angel with this.

In response to RKD2222's comment asking if this could be used on a planeswalker: since the card text says 'permanent' and doesn't specify what type of permanent you can put the counter on, until the card's rulings are updated, if you decide to use a divinity counter on it, then it would be indestructible. In Mark Rosewater's article, "Planeswalker Rules," he wrote that: "Any spell or ability that affects a permanent (for example, "destroy target permanent") can affect a planeswalker. Note that planeswalkers aren't creatures; if a card says it affects a creature, it won't affect a planeswalker."
In addition to that, regarding permanents in general with the counter on them, I think it is fair to say That Which Was Taken really isn't OP because there are still plenty of ways to "get rid of" the permanent that has a divinity counter on it--for example exile or remove x amount of counters off of all permanents. Any spell that targets permanents except for cards that says "destr... (see all)

The rulings on this have changed. Any permanent with a divinity counter on it is indestructible. Not sure why they haven't updated the page...

@blurrymadness: swords_to_exile just mentioned it, it's Aegis Angel.

1. Put a counter on Mizzium Transreliquat
2. Copy That Which Was Taken and choose to keep the copy

Awesome name. Awesome artwork. Terrible card.
How did this get a 4 Star rating? That's way too much.
If cards were to be rated by name, I would rate this 6/5.
But 4/5 for design? Definitely not:
You'll have to pay the first time to make a permanent indestructible while this is in play.
And your opponent can still exile it, bounce it, flicker it, etc.
For that amount of mana, you could have cast two bigger threats instead of inreliably trying to protect something else.
(I remember thinking highly of this card when I started playing, so maybe it has something to do with the fact that new casual players tend to get mislead by the concept behind it.)
It should in the very least not be possible for your opponent to shatter TWWT.
We have Darksteel Plate for creatures these days, which offers just that and costs you half as much mana.
