Less of a beatstick than Cloudthresher but better as a defense against flyers on the whole.
Like nammertime said the fact that this doesn't require 4 green mana also makes it more splashable.

Sadly, he is a Windstorm spider, not a Hurricane. Still, I'd like a reprint. Also, if those Storm Crows are REALLY giving you problems, throw a Basilisk Collar on him and they get extra dead.

@ Dark_Raider This is not strictly worse than Cloudthresher at all. In fact the general consensus is that this card is better. I think you need to learn that there's more to Magic than big numbers.

@NARFNra:
*facepalm*
First off, they're both very good creatures, but the benefit of Cloudthresher is that it has flash, meaning that if an opponent is swinging with an unsuspecting Baneslayer Angel, all of a sudden its being blocked by (one of) the best spaghetti monsters in the game, or cast it at the end of their turn to avoid summoning sickness... Furthermore, although the 2 damage dealt by Cloudthresher to you can hurt, if you're playing it, you're probably running mono {G}, and as such don't have too many flyers, the evoke ability is just icing on the cake really.

To return in M13. Welcome back, old friend. And beware, enemy fliers. Between this, the reprint of Deadly Recluse, and the new vigilant Sentinel Spider, something's telling me that Wizards is really pushing green anti-air.

Not only is he a huge wall, but completely wipes opponent's air forces with recurring "Hurricanes." I will be playing with mine in casual for a very long time.

Ah, good ol' silky. Total surface to air supremacy back in the day. Still pretty damn good.

A very good defensive threat in multiplayer. Fated to be a casual only card, especially in the shadow of Cloudthresher.

The epitome of MTG spider awesomeness!

Green has always had a weakspot for flying. Spiders fill that spot.

Much better than Cloudthresher IMO, for defensive purposes anyway. Two less green mana, repeatable flyer-killing capabilities.

Cloudthresher's definitely got it beat in terms of offense... but just slap an Aspect of Mongoose on this guy, and you've got a perfect anti-flying wall.
