I'm having issues understanding this card, mostly because I find the oracle text confusing compared to the rules. The oracle text (which I presume is the one most up to date) says that Painter's Servant affects cards that are not on the battlefield, but the rules says it affects cards in all zones? Can someone please enlighten me here?

This has spawned a ton of broken, unstoppable kitchen-table decks. It even has a relevant body with the 3 toughness at 2cmc.

Its master must not be very versatile, only ever using one color. That's less of a "painter" and more of a "person who dumps paint everywhere."
