I want to love this card, I really do, but eight mana is just too much to warrant giving one guy doublestrike and another admittedly fancy ability. Sad too, because the Kor desperately need a game winning equipment in standard right now. Behemoth Sledge only kind of counts.

No. Just...no. Equipment has to compete with auras for effects, and despite being "reusable" often falls prey to the usual anti-aura tricks.
Generally speaking, it's best to ignore any equipment that has a total cost (base+equip) greater than 5, because at that point, you would be far better served just playing another creature.
It's not an absolute rule, but it's a fair rule of thumb.
4 mana to play is fair. 3 mana to play, 1 (or 2) to equip would be much better than 4 and 4, and would at least begin to justify the rarity (I feel truly sorry for anyone who pulled this out of a pack.)

not a very good card, but strong if you put it in the right deck. i built an edh deck with jor kadeen as my general and added a lot of equipment to the deck. tried this one out in it. this card is awfully slow but once it's out it's great. i killed a lot of creatures with this card. i recommend it for casual play but not much else. definitely play cards like: magnetic theft, stoneforge mystic, stonehewer giant, brass squire, etc with this card. wondering why they didn't just say provoke on it instead? that would have been better especially for the costs and rarity.
