Why do you need late-game monoblack mana acceleration?
Look at its ability.

Sooo Mythic! It has all the features:
Obscenely powerful in limited.
Flashy effect that begs to be abused.
Evocative art and flavor.

Amazingly potent; while it does cost 6 initially, depending on the style of deck it can certainly reward you greatly. Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth loves this card, even in monoblack (where you're likely running 2-4 Cabal Coffers if you have them available, and possibly some other awesome utility lands like Volrath's Stronghold).
Personally, this is one of the cornerstones of my black 'super-ramp' deck. 4 Ex-Maps to try and set up 1+ Coffers alongside Urborg, 3 Revenants to supercharge the mana once I hit 6 (turn 4 if I'm able to get out 2 Coffers and an Urborg in my first 4 turns), and then finishing with either a one-shot Consume Spirit (love it in this deck as it double as spot removal and life sustenance), or good old Emrakul.
And even without looking at any synergy she has with the rest of a potential deck, if you have 6 swamps and cast her, she can swing for 16 off her own back next turn. There was no way they could give her evasion with that kind of power.

This plus Consume Spirit and Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth in a black/green deck with alot of land untap creatures.

@BloodJunkie
Obviously playing this on turn 2 would be great. There are tons and tons of 6 CMC cards that would be great to play on turn 2.
Anytime someone finds themselves starting a comment with "Play 2 dark rituals..." they should just stop typing.

Cool card, but totally classed by the new crypt ghast. Exchange the shade ability for acceleration two turns earlier, when it will make much more of a difference. Lack of evasion really hurts here too.

This is definitely THE Shade lord. Even though it confers no bonus to other Shades overtly... this double-mana effect is all the bonus Shades need.
