So why are Urza and Gerrard fighting to the death in gladiatorial combat? storywise, i mean.

I love this card. I love the sneaky feeling that you're being very evil when you get to draw two cards every turn and you see your opponent getting more and more worried wondering what's in all those cards you drew. I play it in a monoblack midrange with Korlash and Tendrils of Corruption; it ensures you have a lot of swamps and can keep gaining back a life buffer (and drawing into more Corrupts/Tendrils/Nighthawks, etc). Prolly not as good as Necropotence, but it's balanced.

Turn 1: Dark Ritual -> Arena is such an exciting play too.

I could go on and say how awesome this card is, and the reasons why, but why bother? we have several pages of it.

My issue with Dark confidant Vs this is that, although dark confidant is less mana for what can easily be considered the same effect, it is a creature and therefore all types of removal work on it rather than the abysmal amount of enchantment removal in modern.

I love this card. I love dark confidant as well. Sadly, 1 mana, and that one mana being black, makes a significant impact on the types of decks it can be put into.

4/5 stars, for being a great card with fantastic potential, but being outshined by his ravnica brother.

It always hurts when someone spiteful visions you, leaving you with one of these and a hand full of Sign in Blood.

Bloodgift Demon is this on a 5/4 with the ability to use it on your opponent possibly to kill them if they're really low life. Plus with Heartless Summoning it costs the same amount. I'd rather go with that even if it does die to removal. Regardless of which one you play, this is amazing card advantage.
