I won a game with this once by revealing a chancellor of the forge(CMC=7). It killed the only creature my opponent had: a fortune thief. Then I attacked for 1.
I hope someday to cast this card and cause more carnage than that.

Seriously though, it's nice that red has another potential sweeper effect, and one that can take out big beasties, but usually it's not much better than an Earthquake, and it requires a second card, so it's nowhere near the level of black and white's sweepers - but I guess that's fair, as that's something that black and, in particular, white are good at.

I do really like it with the commander deck it came it. Plus a red wrath (which is really what this is) is always greatly appreciated.

I don't care if this requires another card or costs 7, Red getting mass damage spells to pseudo-Wrath the board is always a good thing. Sure, Red has Earthquake effects, but most of its mass-damage doesn't affect fliers; to that you can turn to this, Pyrohemia, Chain Reaction, and, of course, Blasphemous Act. Although it's usually good that this doesn't hurt your own creatures, it is fun that with the others you can combo them with Stuffy Doll or, in multicolor, VIgor. But still, I like having 4-5 "Wrath effects" in my Commander decks, and this and the others (and colorless options like All is Dust and Oblivion Stone) give you options when choosing Wraths that you didn't always have. I hope to see more Red Wraths that hit fliers as well in the future. Maybe a Join Forces mass damage spell?

I had a Pathrazer of Ulamog in my hand, this and my opponent had Dralnu, lich lord out. Unfortunatly, I went with dropping Inferno titan for {r}{r} instead.
