I think it's because Hatred costs 3BlackBlack and Channel costs GreenGreen. It's like how Time Walk is banned and Time Warp isn't.

On the other hand, Hatred is exceptionally powerful in EDH. All you need is your general to swing in unblocked (Geth, Lord of the Vault and Mikaeus, the Unhallowed preferably because of Intimidate) and you could kill a player like that.
