This is a classic green card that was never really that good. As r-e-meatyard pointed out, trample used to be rare and viewed as powerful and interesting. This was even more so for a BIG trample creature. Sadly, even back then this card wasn't that useful. You can put a couple of Spirit Links on it to gain 8 life every turn. Or, you can sacrifice it to a Phyrexian Dreadnought. Overall, it's a pretty poor card. There are much better big green creatures.

I used to run this card in jank wg, and wgb decks along with the wb spirit link where you gained life whenever it deals or was dealt damage. this card used to be a 3 star card just because it could kill mostly anything and had trample, but its obselete with the existence of terra stomper and other similarly priced cards like duskdale wurm.

Imagine it as part of a Force of X cycle: "You may pay 1 life and exile a green card from your hand rather than pay Force of Nature's mana cost."

It would be a lot better as Force a Nature (Ninth Edition) then when people look over and ask what it is you say, "You don't know who he is? He's a force a nature"
