This is like chandra's ultimata, but usable wherever and without 2 turns of notice

Decent when this was in standard, ridiculous in limited, a game-winner in either format.

I used lavalanche in casual multiplayer to kill 2 platinum angels after having a fireball counterspelled the previous turn to win the match. I know not everyone likes situational victory stories of how a card came out on top, but having a player targeting creature wiper late game in a jund dragon deck can produce results as intended.

Past 5 mana, this is more cost-effective than Bonfire of the Damned. At exactly 5 mana, this is equally as effective as Bonfire.

This was one of my first cards (my first foil, too) and the reason why I played Jund for so long.
Beautiful finisher, and incredible answer to a token deck.

I have a not-so-casual casual tooth and nail deck (it was my first deck and it was full of timmy, but after years of playing and growing up, it is now just an excessively mean casual deck lol) which runs 2 of these. I use cloudpost + glimmerpost to power out big colourless mana.

I think the most I've done with this was 16.

For the record, my deck has no infinites, and the targets for tooth and nail are really budget. I use terastodon + kederekt leviathan (destroy 3 lands, then all non-land permanents get bounced leaving my opponent with an empty field and -3 lands) or tyrant of discord + realm razer (all lands disappear, then all your permanents get sacrificed in a random order). It's a funny deck :P
