another awesome card that never really had its day of glory. even though it was a $9 card at the time it was legal.

This basically makes YOU a Zealous Inquisitor (Form of the Inquisitor!) and as such is extremely cool. Now I'm thinking I really want to see Form of the Inquisitor...
Anyway, this is the best Shoal.

just like Harm's Way in M10, if not better.

This is a great card purely for it's surprise factor. You could be completely tapped out, have no blockers and appear completely vulnerable. Then BOOM, you could rebound the damage on their creature, on the player themselves or my personal favorite (if you are playing a multiplayer game) redirect the damage to a random bystander that happens to have low life.
I like to use this for spite in Two-Headed Giant. "Actually, you just did 7 damage to your teammate... good job" :)

This belongs in pretty much every casual white deck that contains big white cards!!!

"You fireball me for ten?"
*discards Eternal Dragon*
"Okay, I'll swallow the Bolt, here, have the rest to your dome."

It's an obscure, unlikely scenario, but with two of these and Progenitus or Reaper King in hand, you could actually win during the first turn of the game when it is your opponent who goes first. Just deflect 20 damage back to them if they manage to attack with that much.

They will cry for the night.

by far the best shoal, this thing is just crazy.

best thing i can see is redirecting annoying combat triggers like Scalpelexis
insane vs infect,

not only all this but it can be free if you have a card to spare, so what if it costs you a card, when that wins you the game who cares

Edit, reread the card and realised the damage needs to target yourself or a creature you control, does that mean it cannot redirect damage aimed at a planeswalker

This card is amazing. Easily one of my favorite ever printed.

It's so comforting to have it in your hand. It can keep you or your creatures safe from damage, and can kill creatures or even players. But, what makes it awesome is that it's a combat trick that can be used even when you're tapped out, which puts another level onto the game. There's been times I've tapped myself out on purpose while I had a Razia in hand just so I could have my opponent go for an all out assault, thinking he's got the game won, until I redirect the fatal points of damage from myself to his face, either killing him outright or putting him within reach of a burn spell.

It's just so awesome to pull those kind of surprise victories, and this card let's anyone do it almost too easily.

I do wish the art/flavor was a little bit cooler though.

Why not try Mirror Strike ? Costs a lot less when attacked by huge creatures, but you cannot decide to assign the damage to a creature though.
