Creatures that could have been considered good in its time seem so underwhelming nowadays. In this case, Malakir Bloodwitch is usually always better; instead of losing life, you gain life by draining some from your opponents. You lose one power, but you also get Flying, so the loss isn't much.

Classic. I'd lose that life to play 5/5 pro white anyday. 5/5.

Would've been better as a 4 drop, but regardless; I like it.
Could just be the name, could just be the art, could just be the overall blackness of life as a resource, but I like it.

This isn't "using life as a resource" as much as just wasting a bunch of life for no reason. 5/5 for five mana is not such an amazing deal that it requires a penalty that high.

This card is total crap. I'd give it out to a trick or treater if I had one. Tricks on you beeyatch.

Black creatures with protection from white are few and far between, and obviously useful because of their resistance to spot removal, but this is a little harsh. For 1 more mana you can get Ihsan's Shade with no drawback. Should've at least had trample or something.

"Usually always better"
Pardon?

Somehow I like this guy. Good art, old frame... With five toughness he can take some burn before he dies, he can't be killed with swords to plowshares or similiar stuff, and lots of black removal, that goes for "target nonblack", doesn't work on him either.

Dodges O-RIng and a lot of obnoxious White blockers. I'd play it in a pinch.
