I think this is a nice counter token card for EDH. Taking 1 damage for every time you Ghave out a few tokens can make you think about what you're doing.

Also, playing this against a Darien, King of Kjeldor EDH deck means certain doom for a certain someone. They'll need a Soul Warden/Soul's Attendant/Suture Priest/Auriok Champion out to counter that... or make infinite tokens O_O

However, the "put a token" is a may. You could put down enough tokens to keep them alive in time for one of those to come into play.

putting tokens into play dosnt trigger this card, only casting creature spells.
