No, this card is not rendered useless. Just play it when blockers are done being delcared, right before combat damage is dealt, then when combat damage would be dealt the cards effect will prevent it.
Just as usefull as it always has been.

Good for turbo-fog like decks, but practically useless in all other decks.

This thing and its big brother Safe Passage are absolutely brutal, specially if you don't see them coming. Particularly embarassing if you attempt to swing for game, attack with all your creatures, and see the opponent drop this and swing for game next turn while you're defenseless.
@TheWrathOfShane: it's an effect that prevents damage, and you're telling me it's GREEN? What is the color known for an emphasis on defense and prevention? Hell no, it's not goddamn green.
@VoidedNote: no, Furnace of Rath does not get through the effect because it only activates when damage is dealt. Since damage is never dealt, the Furnace never kicks in.

@voidednote
furnace: If A source would deal damage to a creature or player, IT deals double that damage to that creature or player instead.
-> thus the original sources (creatures...blast spells... w/e) still do the damage, not the furnace

The new art is a noted improvement, but I think I'll miss the ole 2-menora ravager. The flavor of this card is really strange. I just imagine a group of goblins sitting around finalizing some sorta raid when one pipes in "Dude, it's a holiday. We can't raid today. Don't be a jerk."
They ought to print George Washington with the text "Soldiers may deal combat damage as though the Holy Day card had not been played."

Either those swords are going to fall down and kill them, or they are honoring Wall of Swords.
