Conversion is a mean card. Denying your opponent access to red mana by turning his Mountains into Plains is just cruel. Use Magical Hack in combination with Conversion to hose ANY color except for white. Once the combo is in place, if your opponent doesn't have Birds of Paradise or (LOL) Celestial Prism, its unlikely he'll be able to cast any spell to get rid of it. Pure red mages have been known to sideboard a playset of Disenchants into their deck to deal with Conversions - or alternately, play Sunglasses of Urza. Players who played both red and white sometimes played Conversion AND Sunglasses of Urza to turn all of their lands into Plateaus. The upkeep of Conversion made this a bit unwieldy.
