Obviously didn't escape with any spellbooks.

A vanilla-wizard? Fail.

How can you call yourself a Wizard when you can't do anything?

The art is good, at least. And Denizs, if you're looking for worse creatures, try Wood Elemental.

I'd rather use Cursecatcher.

It's not the worst card ever, but it would be nicer if it had SOME ability to go with the name and flavor. Maybe Pay return to hand. Or Shroud. Something like that would make this a good card at the least. It's just, why would a Wizard with spell books (according to flavor text) not have any abilities at all?

I looooove vanilla creatures, but I don't feel the creature type is right for this kind of card. If he (she?) was some sort of 'acolyte' wizard that had a wizard lord who could make use of him/her, then that would be cool. How would a wizard lord make use of his acolytes? Well first he could do the usual thing of giving them all +1/+1, then maybe you could tap a number of wizards to return a creature to its owner's hand, or some other blue ability. If it was black, the lord could sac one of his acolytes for mana or something.

@scumbling:
Powercreep tends to occur at rare and higher levels of rarity. For instance, look at Grizzly Bears. Now look at Kavu Titan. While many people like to complain about powercreep, myself included, I recognize that it's a part of the game. That doesn't make it any less of a reality or reduce the annoyance.

Yes, this is a bad card mechanically: It's Merfolk of the Pearl Trident, with a much less relevant creature type. That'd be enough to bump it down to 1 star.
But the flavor takes it the rest of the way down to a half. Why in the world is a wizard, of all things, vanilla? Just call it "Fugitive", and make it creature type "human", for crying out loud.

She's a fugitive because she has no talent.
