one thing you have to remember is that this card was from shadowmorr and that is the set with the untap abilities on a number of cards. being able to tap a creature you control in that set is a really good thing.

I remember this being in the Battle Blitz theme deck, and on the box it said that this was an important card needed in order to activate all the untap abilities. They only put one copy into the deck, and I remember thinking there should be more.

Of course, that deck's main power came not from the untap creatures but from the r/w color synergies, and it wasn't that strong of a deck, but it was a place where this card had its purpose.

I would have loved to see an enchantment that said "Whenever you untap a permanent, if it is untapped, you may tap it instead." in Shadowmoor block. Would have had amusing interactions with things like Seeker of Skybreak and specifically the untap ability cards.

Block>Combat damage step>Tap to make combat more favorable. This card is garbage but not worthless. The fact that you have to tap the thing itself to make the effect work is what makes this card so bad.
