Black critters that make mana don't come along every day. Or even every block, for that matter.
Not saying I'd play it or anything though.

This isn't the worst card in the world, and life loss is one of the staples for black decks. The problem is that in exchange for that life loss, you're supposed to gain a lot of power for your trouble. Paying one life for the exact same ability as one drop Llanowar Elves isn't exactly good, especially considering this card is a two drop.

This is the perfect card to use in my Phyrexian Obliterator deck where I have to splash some green for Prey Upon and Deadly Allure.

This would go well with Elves of Deep Shadow to aid the mana base of a Elf deck.

Damage can at least be prevented, life loss can't.

I agree with a previous poster, this is pretty bad, but I might use this if I desperately needed fixing in limited.

It's not even as good as elves of deep shadow. At least with them they only cost one, and their stats are balanced. This guy, just no.
for lack of balanced stats: *
