You can't play 2 Darksteel Ingots in an EDH deck so this does have SOME value.

Sure, it's an obelisk, which is as plain as it can get. But the fact that it's an artifact with Esper-savvy colors puts it ahead of the game. You can cut its cost with Etherium Sculptor, bounce it to the field from your hand with Master Transmuter, heck, you can even turn it into another creature with Tezzeret's ultimate. Sure, it's 3 mana for 3, but it runs rather well with the cards it was meant to run with. Give it a chance.

Im pretty sure that he/she means this is the best obelisk in the cycle because it is for the artifact based shard, meaning it can be played cheaper with etherium sculptor and triggers glaze fiend's ability as shukakun said. It can be brought in or bounced with master transmuter. It can be sac'd with thopter foundry.
It has an advantage over the other obelisks. Maybe not on the card itself, but because the cards it goes with.

Everybody who thinnks darksteel ingot is so great should remember it's EXTENDED you have to think about formats this is useful for mana accel in both limited and standard so stop saying it is outclassed by something that it doesn't even compete with. You are just comparing apples and oranges.

Look, Rainyday. All the obelisks are frickin' the same! One for each color. There's really no difference. Whatever shard you play, you get an obelisk for that. That's all I'm going to say.

If youre playing white, blue and black, you should ignore this. Get a darksteel ingot instead. It does all 5 colours, and is indestructible, and has the same cost.
