This is the very essence of card advantage. Not only do you not give up anything important, but you choose exactly what your opponent is losing, including a critical land drop, or a planeswalker.

not great, but not bad. unlike duress, this can get an important land drop, or a creature. the card advantage as well doesn't hurt, certainly playable in the right deck.

Why are more than one person calling Coercion, 'Coercition'??

Who keeps saying this is Distress with a cantrip? Because it's not.
It's Coercition with a cantrip.
Coercition costs 2B, so making this cost 2UB is a great price and this is a really underrated card.

A lot of silly criticism about this card. Yes, it's 4-mana to force a discard, which isn't very aggressive.
It doesn't compare to Distress and it doesn't compare to Duress. Distress has BB in its cost - this doesn't. Distress can't discard lands, and duress can't discard lands or creatures.
This is Coercion (not "coercition" - what?!) with an extra pay U to draw a card. It's fairly costed for a common, but overall, yeah, it's not that great. I still have it as filler in my Megrim+Wistful Thinking deck, though. ;-)

I want to love this card...but I just can't. It's got great flavor and a neat effect, but river's grasp does a better job at the same cost. Why can't we just have recoil back...other than the fact that it's just outright better than comparable cards in current formats.

Geez. At least it can hit land....
Good in a casual game to hit your opponent's Pathrazer of Ulamog or something.
