If you've got seven or more mana to spend, this Hydra is the shit. It shouldn't be that hard seeing as how its part green. He'll really shine if you give him Runes of the Deus though. Can you say "Hit by a freight train"?

"So... I want to destroy everything. Completely. What creature have I come across that can do this for me..? Hmm.. Oh! That little mana-devouring lizard. Let's see what happens when I fill it up with mana..."

My friend spent 20 mana on this guy once.

I Fate Transfered all the counters to my Slippery Bogle.

He wasn't happy.

Can't be blocked by anything less than thirty people and an angel.

There's so much to like about this guy;
A great twist on the X-cost, X-counters shtick; tapless pinging, it's a freaking hydra eating angels, it has apocalypse in its name.

I am a bit... bemused... about the hydra ripping its heads of to ping someone.

I run a deck that involves a few hydras, a few defenders (Including sprouting phytohydra!) and overgrown battlements to pump out lots of mana. The look on my friends face as I laid down a 70/70 apocalypse hydra then enchanted it with rancor was absolutely priceless

Well the rules are a bit at odds with the art...
How did it end up with seven heads...

AMAZING ART, best in the set. Possibly the block.

I've been killed by this card several times.
Has anyone done this?:
Play Doubling Cube.
Play Doubling Season.
Play this card and pay whatever you can for X.
Doubling Season doubles the number of tokens, as does this card's effect. Doubling cube increases how much you can pump into X.

Only problem?
Why the ping effect (that other one where you can remove the counters to do damage?)
Not only is it not necessary, but doesn't make sense from a Vorthos standpoint (What does that damage represent? Chucking the heads at your opponent?)

add Quietus Spike or even gorgon flail the ping will seem to be alot more better, with either of those 2 mana for instance death to a creature. a nice way to clear out some creatures before they block.
