Wow, when did they change the oracle of Phyrexian Devourer? The Oracle read:
"When Phyrexian Devourer's power is 7 or greater, sacrifice it.
Exile the top card of your library: Put X +1/+1 counters on Phyrexian Devourer, where X is the exiled card's converted mana cost. If Phyrexian Devourer's power is 7 or greater, sacrifice it."
Now this sacrifice trigger that used to be checked by activating the ability is gone.

I think it's closer to the printed card text once again, since it no longer checks the power by activating the ability.
And this allows some great combos with cards that can copy Phyrexian Devourer's activated ability!

The Necrotic Ooze/Triskelikon combo also worked before if you kept exiling cards and only let the cards with a cmc of 2 or less resolve to get fuel for Triskelikon's ability. But now it's much easier: just let any trigger resolve, the bigger the exiled card's cmc, the better!

And obviously Necrotic Ooz... (see all)

@MrQuizzles:
It is not. You just got it wrong. The combo works like this:

You activate the Devourer's ability. If it costs 3 or more, you do it again. This works because you don't have to pass priority between the two activations. Also, since the cost is exiling the top card of your library, you'll know what it is before it resolves. Then, if the card does not cost 3 or more, you let it resolve, then activate the Triskelion's ability. Repeat until your opponent is dead. You don't ever need to resolve one ability that would make you sacrifice the Ooze.

It's at best a 6/6 for 6 that requires you to mill yourself. You can get far better for 6 mana.

@holgir

Oracle text says to sacrifice it, so being indestructible is worthless.

In my usual gaming group, this got nicknamed the Phyrexian Exploder, because whoever was running it would always get too greedy and end up having to bury it.

Shadow's Vengeance, you seem to be one of the few people not reading the card before making claims about how this card really works.

You see, the card has two abilities, one that kills it when it when it has seven or more power, and then one that makes it grow and then, if it has seven or more power, kills it. Now that first ability is not stolen by Necrotic Ooze, as it is a triggered ability. This means that if you play the Ooze with six Glorious Anthem-style effects in play and this card in your graveyard, it won't blow up right away.
However, it does gain the second ability as that's an activated ability. So, if you want, you can reveal a card and have your necrotic ooze grow. If you do so, however, it does kill itself if by the end of the ability it has more than 7 power (be that through +1/+1 counters or through Glorious Anthems.

Wow, so much people not understanding that you can put another instance of his ability on the stack after exiling something with cmc>3. You NEVER have to let the ability that would cause you to sac him resolve until after your enemy is dead. The combo with Necrotic Ooze still works, if you do it right.

Also, JaxsonBateman, The Mimeoplasm has +1/+1 counters on it. So, in your example, he could just remove them for the Triskelion to shoot you then combo with the Devourer and you are dead.
