As if this needed to be balanced with Gray Ogre.

I think red over the years has suffered the decline and eventual extinction of more types of "classical" fantasy creatures than any other color. Dwarves are one example - anyone remember the last one that was printed? How about the last useful one? Orcs are another example, and with trash like this, is it any wonder?

There were dwarves in Zendikar.

3/2 that "cant block" for is still playable today. And I think they decided to ditch orcs and stick with goblins. They are both similar in flavor and they didn't want two clashing major tribes in one color.

Can't even block the Dwarven Soldier... This was one of red's stronger creatures in Fallen Empires. Not quite as good as its non-FE cousin, Ironclaw Orcs, but certainly better than Dwarven Catapult.

@A3Kitsune
There were no dwarves in Zendikar, but Shadowmoor had a few. Misshapen, derpy, and mostly harmless, but still dwarves.
The last useful dwarves were printed in Odyssey block, with stuff like Dwarven Bloodboiler and Dwarven Recruiter.
The last orcs were printed in Tenth Edition (Orcish Artillery) and Time Spiral before that, as throwbacks.
The obvious reason for the diminishing of the Orcs and Dwarves is the rampant popularity of the Goblins as THE red tribe. One ray of hope has appeared with the tribal Minotaurs present in Theros, although they probably exist only becuase Goblins wouldn't make much sense for the setting (although, Kamigawa...)
