"Without the Islandhome, this would be good."
I clicked on the discussion tap intending to say just that.

Wait a minute - so, these Merfolk can FLY, and yet can't go anywhere without water?! Okay, I give up - Fallen Empires is insane!

Hmmm, I don't think the Knights "Fly". The Knights give a command and the Horses Jumps really High out of the water , but still needs water and a place to land, Hence the Islandhome, and the effect ending.
Not to many Blue Knights, Awesome Flavor and Picture

IMHO the ability should also remove the islandhome. If it flies it doesn't need those islands anymore.

This is the only blue creature in Fallen Empires capable of flying with its own ability. In fact, it's the only creature in Fallen Empires capable of flying with its own ability period. The only other card in Fallen Empires that even grants flying is Goblin Kite, which kills the creature half the time.
Did the people who made Fallen Empires just hate flying or something?

Aquillion: You're right. Specifically, it was the playtesters who hated flying. Mark Rosewater mentioned this on his blog: http://markrosewater.tumblr.com/post/69957355812/its-my-birthday-yay-any-trivia-you-know-about-fallen

Thunder Spirit, with drawbacks, in blue.
On the other hand, we gain a more useful creature type.
