Is it me, or is that not at all a briar patch in the picture? It's a tree. Briars are all prickly. A tree, meanwhile, is a tree. Guay is a great artist, but she needs to learn what she's doing before painting a picture.
Also, this card is fun in multiples.

Reminds me of Orim's Prayer, which I prefer for this purpose because you can Fog or Holy Day to come out in the positives. However, If you really want to deter things from attacking, try Caltrops or Lightmine Field.

Use Gaea's Anthem instead and make your creatures big enough to maul the attackers instead of just weakening them.
