It doesn't boost itself. Look at the card. Before they changed the way creature types were printed, the creature type was whatever appeared after "summon". Pretty much all the "overlord" creatures that were printed then have a different type than the tribe they are giving a bonus to (see Lord of Atlantis, for example). Now they count as those types, but to keep the card functioning the same way, they've added errata that say "other ____ creatures". This does make a minor difference, however, in that if you have two of them out they will now give each other the bonus, whereas before they would not have.

Kobolds have so much potential, I'm almost glad almost no one seems to notice! Creatures that cost 0 always have great combo potential!

I actually guess it would be ok. in a changeling deck...
A 2/2 for 2 that boosts your team?
Hmm...

Much better than that legendary guy! Much better.
his stats almost cover his cost by themselves while his ability more than... wait...
It doesn't say other kobolds... he himself is a kobold... that means he gives himself a slight boost! Unless there has been a magic ruling that cards can't do that, that's what's happening here!
That puts him at already a 2/2 that costs two! So...
starting rating: ***
Edit: wait... He's not a Kobold... At least not according to the card alone, but with the edit he loses the rest of his stuff...
tribal power up: +*
Low for a two cost: -*/2
final: ****

The errata says he's a kobold now, but it also has it so that it's text reads "other kobolds" so he doesn't get the bonus.
Overall though, with most other kobolds being 0/1's, making them all 1/1's isn't really something to write home about. Sure, they can now stand up to the weakest of goblins now, but that's not exactly a point of pride.

Kobolds with this are pretty funny with winter orb and some burn. Some decks literally can't keep up. Add in Trumpet Blast or raid bombardment effects and you have a playable and very strange deck. Battalion and Battlecry effects rule here.

Lol, Prossh, Skyraider of Kher's commander deck gets printed with kobold support. The only purpose of the kobolds in said deck is to...be eaten by prossh (or otherwise abused.) My question is why kobolds when there are plenty of perfectly abusable goblins that could be produced instead? TBH Kobold is a larger tribal than frogs as far as I have seen, and they are cheap at the very least. Could make a crazy aggro strategy out of them I suppose.
