He's green because back when he was first printed, faeries were green. The first non-green faerie was Sea Sprite (from the same set as this guy).

Not very good, until, you throw a Scryb Ranger into the mix and he's the better choice when compared to Sprite Noble because he's 2G, instead of 1UU
