Definitely not the greatest
But a quarter of someone's life with one card is never the worst thing ever

In constructed maybe it's nothing. In limited it's a real bomb. Combine with Chandra's Spitfire and Fire Servant

As much as I love "Catch!" you do have to admit that the new flavor text is pretty cool. Still, I would be the last one to complain if M12 saw a return to the more iconic flavor text we all know and deeply, sensuously love.

i do agree that "Catch!" was the perfect flavor text, but i think they could have done a lot worse than this text. Regardless, i hope the next time they reprint it, they'll do it right and put back the best flavor text Lava Axe has seen.

Lava Axe needs it's catchphrase back.

Think of it this way: It's better than Berserkers of Blood Ridge, and for the same mana cost.

This is in m11 with fireball and lightning bolt simply because its a common that catches the eyes of new casual players. They can slap together a fun red deck with these and win a few games. True, fireball is more versatile, but fireball needs 6 cc to do 5 damage this is slightly more efficient. Then again, if u have 6+ mana late game you would probably want to top deck a fireball over a lava axe. Unstable footing does the same thing and will deal the damage in the rare scenario it would rather be prevented, but why not have those over this? But, just for fun you could stack x4 fireball, x4 unstable, and x4 lava axes in the current standard. Actualy, ima throw a casual red deck together with that for MTGO right now, hehe.

Oh, Fire Servant, every player in their right mind kills you before this becomes useful.
