Why does it get smaller when it turns into a butterfly?

I like this card more than I should, for it makes a green flier.

if you think about it, caterpillars are more dangerous. they are the ones eating plants and whatnot. butterflies just go for nectar, are lighter, yada yada. i see the flavor of it getting smaller.
