How can anyone not think this card is anything but a 5. A free creature w/o manipulation, free mana and free creature with combos.

Highly splashable and with a great ability.
It is extremely satisfying to play a Swamp, Dark Ritual, then this, and then something like an Hypnotic Specter, a Phyrexian Negator, some Dusk Urchins, or similar.
Even better is bouncing this with Recurring Nightmare in a deck that takes advantage of creature sacrifice with classic cards such as Grave Pact, or the more recent Blood Artist and Deathgreeter.
