It's worth it to withhold one damage from a Blaze just to see the look on your opponent's face when you finish with Shower of Sparks. I used to run 4 of these in all my red decks back in the day.

Small burns with nice side effects like this one play well as a combat trick in decks where your creatures have or gain first strike.
Red is a first strike color- good ones are Bloodmark Mentor, Blood knight, and Shivan Raptor.

Better with planeswalker damage. Kill a creature and put off an ultimate for a turn? Situationally useful

Chandra, Pyromaster = proof this card is a good reprint?
This would be INSANE at 2 damage. How much mana would that need to cost? Minimum {1}{R}. Maybe {R}{R}.
You can't really get this at 3 damage, because you'd just plain have to lose either speed or splashability or instant speed, which would somewhat change the function of the card. This at 2 damage would be a definite uncommon, and if it was kept at 1 mana, possibly a Mythic Rare.

I think everyone has said it, this is Chandra Pyromaster's 1st ability. People keep wondering why WOTC keep giving Chandra's +1 ability 1 damage. Why not Shock? This is her 4th iteration and she can still only deal 1 damage to a creature or player, or in this case both. But shock or Mugging would've been just fine on her without her being broken.

One of the first cards I ever owned, but i'd much rather draw Lightening Bolt. Had this in a Viashino themed deck, too bad it wasn't very good.

Effectively two damage for one mana? Forked Bolt is only slightly better, and at sorcery speed.
I like this card. Somewhat situational, but decent none the less.
