i dunno rubber. this splashes, unlike volcanic fallout. (and if you can actually splash 4x a 1RR card in your control deck, which I assume is mostly blue and white-or-black, then you are spending too much on lands) paining yourself is actually the easiest cost in the game, and the reason why fetches go for 30 bucks and Necropotence gave the Black Summer its name...the point of paining costs is if your deck is good enough, you can pain for 19 on turn 1, and still win because of all the stuff that 19 life paid for.
im not that good, my cards arent that good, but Ive seen it done. both players knew what they were doing, and it was a Suicide Mirror. sickest thing Ive ever seen.
it shocks everything. however you value that, thats what it does. shocks everything with a mana cost that can accomodate being in a 3 or more color deck easily.

Kind of a clash of effects... Board sweeper for control, with damage to both players? That's something you only want to do with aggro or burn. Pyroclasm is where it's at.
Or Volcanic Fallout, even though it damages both players. It's worth it because it's an instant.
