The kind of uncommon card that is good for the game... only because it is interesting in draft (and I'd not hate drafting it at all). Having said that, unless you enter a time warp and draft some nemesis cards, you're probably best-served forgetting about the craptacular flowstone thopter.

Flowstone Thopter isn't a bad card in its niche; if you want an artifact creature or colorless creature as a finisher, it's effective and for a while was one of the best available. A power of 7 is the tipping point to do 20 damage in three turns, and flying is always good to have on a finisher. The ability to give flying at will can be a tactical boon.

What other artifact creature would kill an opponent as fast or as easy as the Thopter when it was printed? Phyrexian Colossus and Colossus of Sardia have tap fees that are more mana intensive than the Thopter's power boost and Phyrexian Dreadnought wasn't too useful until the Stifle trick was around. What other artifact creature is in the conversation? Juggernaut? Mishra's War Machine? Teeka's Dragon?

The Thopter swings hard.

I built something like that with Legos one time. I wasn't very good at Legos.

@BegleOne
You bring up good points, as thopter is priced just right for an oldschool urzatron deck. I have to admit I've never considered it as a finisher. And thanks to things like Wurmcoil Engine and Pentavus, I don't have to. I have used Telethopter though!
Phyrexian Colossus was good because you could actually get away with paying the 8 life by blitzing it out with Tinker or Grim Monolith, or you could untap it with keys if you had them. A 7/1 flyer with an upkeep would be hard to keep going, because it trades with small flying creatures and weak, cheap burn spells.

Actually, I think this thing is fairly useful. Sure the cost is steep, but it's a flyer that can hit for 7. Or you can use Slagwurm Armor to make it hit even harder...

Wouldn't be all that bad in an aggro equipment/metalcraft deck. Boost its toughness with Accorder's shield and go to town with the boost. Should be worth six mana though.

Am I the only one who just loves the idea of all things Flowstone? Using toughness as a resource to boost power, or vice versa, is just lovely! Now... if only other numbers could be used as resources somehow.
