You must mean "Limited fodder". This guy is solid in a draft, though he is worthless in sixty-card decks.

Not every card can be a bomb, and some cards need to be bellow the curve or there wouldn't be a curve. In a draft this could be a very late-pick and its not completly useless. You can make anything look good with equipment.

It seems like every set based on Mirrodin we get a cycle of artifact creatures with colored activated abilities. It also seems like they all suck.

This is actually not that bad in limited. Survived the slagstorm and giving it vigilence is good to fight the weenie battlecry decks

Glimmerpoint Stag or Akroma's Devoted would be better choices, unless you want artifact creatures. If you want artifact creatures, there are far better ones.
