The biggest issue I've found with this guy is that the fatty you pull will likely eat that counterspell or piece of removal your opponent was saving. For best results, run with Gaea's Revenge.

Petrified Woodkin is another non-counterable fatty, and knowing you have him in hand will encourage your opponent to block more.
