A fair, non-broken way to improve this cycle of lands would have been to give them their particular basic land-type. In this case, swamp.

Anything else I can think of (doesn't come into play tapped, cycle for life instead of mana) sounds broken.

Decent black cycling. Wish it didn't come into play tapped, though that might be a little over the top.

4/5 still for usefulness.

Meh. The worldwake & Zendikar lands are better. If it was "search your library for a card" it would be better.
