It's like Acidic Slime except it doesn't get the creature advantage that green gets. It does, however, give you a way of dealing with creatures and planeswalkers. It's mana cost turns it into a very average card. At 2WW this card would have been excellent, but since it's 3WW, this card is just a 2.5/5 average.

This card hits what white was missing. With this, white can get rid of just about anything.

Creature removal? Swords to Plowshares and Path to Exile handle that business.
Mass Creature removal? Only the best in the game, with Wraths and Days and all that other madness.
Enchantment and Artifact removal? There's so much, so much...
Mass Enchantment and Artifact removal? Cleanfall, Purity, and Serenity.
Everything except for land removal? Oblivion ring does it all.
Mass Everything except for lands removal? Akroma's Vengeance and Austere command hit everything except for planeswalkers, and planar cleansing takes care of those as well.

And Saltblast allows white to get rid of pesky lands. Good land destruction goes around at about 3 mana, and decent land destruction goes at 4 (and usually can additionally target something like creatures or artifacts). At 5 mana, saltblast can target a fair amount of stuff, even when fighting against a mono-white deck.

And, of course, white had mass land ... (see all)

@Mekh

I almost agree.
However, with Elspeth's deck getting the mana isn't too hard,
And destroying Tezzeret is a big deal, imo.
I normally use it when I just want to spend mana for whatever,
Even if it only destroys a land.

That cost for the ability is just not worth it, although the mono-white vindicate is interesting, it still costs too much.

For decks that can't use Oblivion ring... Wait a second...

Anywho, when I first saw this I thought, " damn that's good " then I realized it wasn't an instant. =\

At first I laughed hard at this card, almost right out of my binder.. but then I realized.. Wait.. this is awesome! Totally for my (mono-white) angel deck (Where I have 4-9 mana costing angels).. Mana's not really a problem. Yeah I've got 4 oblivion rings, but that doesn't mean I'm going to draw them all, a backup could be really useful.

(Note to the comment about it being worthwhile if it were 2WW .. well yeah.. it'd be even better as a 1 WW or WW, or 1W, or W).. 5 mana to destroy your choice of anything nonwhite is pretty cool. Like the older cards saying "Choose one: (given a few options)" generally cost a little more.. or for green 4 mana will give you the choice to destroy enchantment, artifact, or land...for 1 more, you can choose anything, with the added restricting "nonwhite".

I had my angel deck pretty set, but I think I'm going to throw Saltblast in for a while and see how it runs. If it proves less-than-usefull, I will take it out of my deck and remove this comment, but I... (see all)
