In slow games not bad, but I prefer fumarole. Yeah, you got to pay 3 life for fumarole, but it also costs 5 mana instead of 6, and can kill black creatures.

Just expensive and tricky removal. Land destruction isn't as important at endgame, and if it's in a land destruction deck, having to target a nonblack creature might make you unable to cast the spell. Doom Blade and Stone Rain are better on their own.
This spell does get some credit for being able to destroy a land without allowing the opponent to regenerate it.

Good for EDH. Killing a creature is good, high mana costs don't matter, and you'll probably take out something like Maze of Ith or Academy Ruins, which can be even more important than the creature you killed.
