You might think this to be a quite unreliable card since the card is discarded at random and your opponent will make the decision on top of that, which means that fatties will most often hit the graveyard anyways, but aside from that he has to pay a lot of life, and it's still really useful and spares a lot of mana in a creature-heavy deck.

You can't first turn gruul turf, as that would be the land you'd have to return to your hand.

Play this with life from the loam. Since the discard is random you might discard some lands, youll want them back, and if you discard life it as dredge anyway and you still get your land(s) back. Win win situation.

Just run 30+ creatures and 20 lands, do low cost hasties like Rip-Clan Crasher and take a 2 mana hand. Either way, you're going to end up with a solid R/G duel deck and the enchantment is gonna work by super accelerating it. You can cascade into another one of these with a Bloodbraid Elf. You now get to drop 2 creatures basically for free, or your opponent gets to choose to lose 5 life. Play it with Fecundity to make sure you've always got cards in hand to discard. Amazing Gruul card, which works off the concept of "Do as much damage as fast as possible because RED GREEN SMASHY SMASHY."

just run it with cards like progenitus or the new eldrazi or darksteel colossuses. then after your opponent made you discard 3 cards, you get your ubber creature and kill him with it. because honestly, are you going to let them play any of those cards on like turn 4 or 5?

use this in a deck that has all creatures other than this card.
1st turn gruul turf
2nd turn any color land and play aether rift
3rd turn more than likely drop creature unless opponent pays 5 life
i use these and keldon firebombers to reduce all land in play to only 3. then your opponent really can't do much of anything. either let the creatures stay in play or die within 6 turns.
