This was in-cycle during the time I played at local tournaments as a kid; I remember having one in my deck just because I liked the artwork.
Normally he'd just be an overcosted flyer, but during a close game once, I managed to get this thing out while my opponent had an Iridescent Angel on the field. Thinking he had protection from everything, he attacked, then just looked at the board, dumbfounded as I blocked with Lotus Guardian before smacking himself on the forehead. Went on to win the game because of that.
Probably my best Magic memory.

Should have +2/+2 and tap for 3 mana of any color. That'd be worth 7 mana.

Pros: Colorless, flies
Cons: Embarrassment to the lotus heritage, Low P/T for mana, Ability doesn't match the rest of the card, Took up a rare slot
Even green doesn't want to pay 7 for a 4/4 flier (speaking of green look at that activated ability).

Well, if you want something to dump into your graveyard as part of an infinite 5-colored mana combo with Necrotic Ooze, and for some reason you want it to be a 7 CMC 4/4 flier instead of an accelerator that actually accelerates, you have found a candidate for the job.
And people give my man Flowstone Thopter a hard time. THIS WAS IT'S COMPETITION!
