Nice synergy with Veteran Explorer. Watch this guy, he could be even more useful as soon as Zendikar with this whole land theme roles around.

A very lovely card in multiplayer, where at least ONE person will be attempting to ramp up their land count through one method or another. This guy has gone from deck to deck many a-time with me.

Yes, you can probably only cheap cast it in late game, but if you have a few copies in hand, they could probably all go into play. As Dingo suggested, cheap casting means 6 extra mana for other spells.

sure, by the time you could cheap cast him, you could probally hard cast him anyway, and either way he is a late game card
but when you cheap cast him, you get the 
mana for other spells, counters, burns, his own fire breathing, and he is good at turning a late game
